Free Summer Concert/Sidewalk Astronomy, August 22, Rosemead Park

The 2008 Rosemead Summer Concert series wraps up on Friday, August 22 with the Doo Wah Riders. Their management group has a six or seven minute compilation clip here. The group’s myspace page is here.

They’re a country-western group that has played/will play at similar concert in the park events in Whittier, Pico Rivera, Monrovia, Temple City, San Juan Capistrano, and at numerous fairs and other venues across the country. In Rosemead Park, they should be taking the stage around 7pm.

I have heard that there’s a local group that’s supposed to come on some time around 5 or 5:30pm, but I have not heard further details. I’ll check with the parks department later to see if I can get more info on this.

I’ll also be doing sidewalk astronomy in Rosemead Park again. Probably just Jupiter, which will be shining brightly in the south-southwest at dusk. I may try searching for a few other objects once it gets darker.

Delta Rose

OK, bit more information on the first band to take the stage on Friday: They’re called "Delta Rose," which, I assume, means that at least some of the members live on Delta Street in Rosemead. They’re Rosemead High School grads, and have played a number of venues in the area, and I think they also played at last year’s Oktoberfest. Their myspace page is here.

Delta Rose will be taking the stage at 5:30pm.

At the top of their "influences" and "sounds like" sections, they say, "Eric Clapton." In my opinion, they sound nothing like Eric Clapton. Some of their songs have a rock-a-billy sound, and some sound like straight rock. Then again, I can’t whistle a tune to save my life, so I might not be the best judge of who they sound like!

Free Summer Concert/Sidewalk

Maybe Eric Clapton and George Thorogood channeling through The White Stripes... and everyone wants to be John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters. I guess that's *everyone*.
