Fresh and Easy

Revised story on Fresh and Easy. This one has the obligatory kiss-up to Steven Ly. Never mind that the deal was all done but the dotting of the I's and crossing the T's before he was even elected. . . .

Here's the version that was in the paper this morning. Straight business story, no mention of Darth Stupid.

Best of luck to Fresh and Easy

But I have my doubts as to if this will be a viable location. Driving to and from this location is going to prove to be problematic during much of the day. Examples:

1. If you're coming from the east? You've got it the easiest. You'd come west on Valley, then have to turn left on Rosemead, then try to cross Rosemead on to Steele, then enter from the south. To go home, it's an easy right turn on to Valley.

2. If you're coming from the north, you'd have to drive past Valley, then turn left on to Steele (waiting for traffic on Rosemead northbound), and turn into the shopping center from Steele. To leave, you'd have to make a right on to Valley, then make a U-turn somewhere on Valley to get back to Rosemead.

3. If you're coming from the south, you'd be able to turn right on Steele and enter the shopping center from the south. But to get back, you'd have to make a right on to Valley, then either make a U-turn to get back to Rosemead, or make a right on Hart and zig-zag through residential streets to get back to Rosemead. Then you'd have to find a way to cross over the northbound lanes and turn on to southbound Rosemead.

4. If you're coming from the west, you can easily turn right into the shopping center. But, again, to get back, you'd need to make a right on to Valley, then make a U-turn somewhere to head back west.

Because both Valley and Rosemead are so congested, waiting to cross either or both streets to get to this shopping center (which everyone will need to do, regardless of which way you're coming from) is going to be very frustrating. Even though I'm relatively close to this corner, the congestion is bad enough that I'd probably drive out of town for my groceries. It would take longer, but be less frustrating.

F&E is a subsidiary of Tesco of the UK, one of the largest grocery stores in the world. The biz story made it sound like they were a local El Segundo company.
