The Power of Blogs

The blogger currently known as "watch" recently posted this near the tail end of a very long list of comments to a post that’s on page three of our blog. Just thought I’d put a link up here, in case you didn’t manage to catch it. He includes a quote from this post to Edward Barrera’s blog. Barrera is the San Gabriel Valley Newsgroup's metro editor.

Pinkberry Comes to the SGV!

While it's entirely possible that the only person who cares about this sort of thing is my wife (who already knows what I'm about to write!), Pinkberry has come to the San Gabriel Valley.  Their store is in Pasadena, on Fair Oaks, just south of Colorado.  Their hours are 11am-11pm daily.

In the meantime, Pinkberry clones Peach House (northeast corner of Valley and New) and Pin-go (north side of Valley, a bit west of Garfield) are still closer to us here in Rosemead.  Don't know of any frozen yogurt places in Rosemead, yet.

Amusing SGV Tribune Headline/Arcadia Mall Projects

Tuesday, July 24, front page of the local news section:  "Judge to consolidate 2 lawsuits over Arcadia Mall"

What so funny about the headline?  The lead paragraph of the story reads, "A judge on Monday said she likely will not consolidate two legal challenges to a proposed upscale shopping mall in Arcadia, but will hold joint hearings on both to save time."

Baguettes in Rosemead

Among the dozens of places where you can get a baguette sandwich in or around Rosemead are Mr. Baguette, http://www.mrbaguettesandwiches.com/ and Lee's Sandwich, http://www.leessandwiches.com/Stores/LSRosemead.php.  In Rosemead, they're almost within spitting distance, both on Valley, a bit east of Walnut Grove and west of Muscatel.

Rosemead and South San Gabriel Announcements

I attended the CDC (because of the recent discussions concerning the appointment of a new counsel) and city council meetings last night, and also chatted with several Rosemead and South San Gabriel friends.  Let me make some quick announcements.  I'll try to be as factual as possible.

     1.  The county's meeting at Evergreen Baptist Church (noted by John in a previous post) is at 6pm today (Wednesday, July 18).  The church is located on the part of San Gabriel Blvd that runs mostly east-west, and it's just west of Don Bosco high school.  It's a county meeting, so it's open to anyone.

Are Levitz's days in Rosemead numbered?

I definitely like what has happened on the other side of Rosemead Blvd.  Be nice if we could get something similar on the west side of the street.  It would be even better if they could rework the freeway access as part of this project.

Special City Council Meeting: Tuesday, July 17, 5:30pm

Don’t think this has been posted here, yet: Rosemead City Council next meets on Tuesday, July 17, at 5:30pm. The Community Development Commission meets at 5:00pm on that same day.

The agenda for the city council meeting is available here.

The agenda for the CDC meeting is available here.

While waiting for a bus. . .

One of the many problems I see with the car culture in California is that we don't talk to people any  more.  We all have our own little space and the only interaction we have with our fellow California commuters is when we blast the horn.  By contrast, when you take public transit, you actually have to interact with your fellow human beings.  Yesterday, I ran into this guy named Juan Garcia.  Turns out he's a comedian, and he has a myspace page.  So here's a free plug for a fellow Rosemeadian and public transit user:
