Montebello newsletter

News from Montebello, brought to you by. . . . Montebello.

I’ve got nothing against city newsletters, because people in the city should be informed of new ordinances, recreational opportunities, senior programs, etc. But common sense and possibly the law say you shouldn’t be releasing these newsletters in the middle of a campaign!

LOLz, Rosemead Deja Vu

When the elections in Rosemead got heated, the city suddenly had to get a new, color layout for their newsletter. That thing hadn't changed much for years, and all of a sudden, color. Interesting, no?

LOLz, Rosemead Deja Vu

Absolutely.  They also painted bright new address numbers on the street curbs, repaved Rosemead Blvd, renegotiated the trash collection contract with Consolidated, increased the number of Sheriff's deputies in Rosemead, and improved their graffiti responsiveness.  These are things they could have done twenty or thirty years ago, but did not bother with until threatened with a recall.  There's nothing like the threat of losing their job to make a politician get off their butts and do some work.

It's too bad it has to get down to a *recall* election before things happen. It'd have been better if there was some regular creative tension that pushed them to stay on their toes, afraid of losing their jobs.

There's a lot of talk everywhere about Tran doing this or that, or doing things he shouldn't, or doing things he should. What about the others? Are Low and Nunez making things happen? What about Clark and Taylor?

As it stands, even the s--- talking that the SGV Trib does about Tran is only going to make his star shine brighter to a lot of folks, who see him as doing something for the residents.

Back to the main topic.

This Montebello newsletter could backfire on the incumbents. They haven't had one since 2004. They don't appear to have even an online or email newsletter. People in the know may view it as a cynical ploy to get votes.
