When Rosemead decided to do some of their own animal control activities in lieu of contracing with the county, I was skeptical. In fact, I'm still skeptical, thinking this is really an attempt to get more dog license revenue rather than to "save" money. Nonetheless, other cities are looking at the same move.

Rosemead City Council Members Have Most Expensive Health Care Benefits

Good job of serious investigative reporting by the Los Angeles Times has produced a chart showing health care costs imposed on taxpayers by elected officials. Their findings show that Rosemead city council members have the most generous health benefits of any of our neighboring cities:

Full-time benefits for Part-time work

The only local city mentioned in this editorial is Monterey Park, but the bit on health and retirement benefits is true for pretty much all the local cities.

But Water Quality Authority board members do receive a big, fat stipend. That's why Margaret Clark has been on the board since its inception.

In my parents' generation, Asian gardeners were usually Nisei who took care of the yards of the wealthier white people in southern California. Now, Asian gardeners are gang members growing marijuana inside of houses. Progress?
