Party Endorsements -- San Gabriel, and the "Other" Chin Ho

The L.A. County Republican Party made no endorsements in the San Gabriel City Council election. The County Democratic Party endorsed only Phillip Hu. Judging by yard signs, it would be a real upset if Hu won.

The funniest thing about San Gabriel's city council election is the candidate who has all the "Chin Ho" signs. I assume he's trying to play off of the character from Hawaii Five-O:

Election Day

Tuesday, March 8 is election day in Monterey Park, Rosemead and San Gabriel. If you're not sure about your polling place, visit the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder's website. Note that some of you may have two separate polling places: one for your city council election and one for the L.A. Community College Board of Trustees election.

San Gabriel High School E-waste Drive

It's not until February 26 and 27, 9am - 3pm, so you've got plenty of time to collect your stuff. They'll take computers, monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, televisions, vcr/dvd players, auto and rechargeable batteries, and many other electronic stuff. If you've got it, bring it, and they'll let you know if they can take it.

"F" in Smoking

The American Lung Association isn't happy with the smoking policies of any area cities. I don't say whether their goal is good or bad--I'm just reporting the story.

San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority

Other than spending thousands of dollars on fancy ads in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, it's not clear what the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority has done for the citizens of the San Gabriel Valley. But Water Quality Authority board members do receive a big, fat stipend. That's why Margaret Clark has been on the board since its inception.

HOWS

There was a big banner hanging from the HOWS supermarket at Huntington and San Gabriel yesterday, announcing that the store was staying open forever. I had no idea what that sign was all about until I read today's Los Angeles Times.

Another Marijuana House

In my parents' generation, Asian gardeners were usually Nisei who took care of the yards of the wealthier white people in southern California. Now, Asian gardeners are gang members growing marijuana inside of houses. Progress?
