Meeting focuses on middle school transition

"Some red flags that have surfaced include peer pressure to experiment with drugs and sex and students having trouble peacefully resolving conflicts with their friends.

Another disturbing trend has been an increase in students inhaling spray deodorant to get high. The school responded by banning spray deodorants, she said."

Rosemead Youth Association -- Postive story that got lost in the shuffle

.     You'd almost think the editors at the SGVN don't want any positive stories to come out about Rosemead.  The story below was posted to their website at 9:46am on Wednesday, but was pulled almost immediately.  Most curious.
.     So, in case you missed it, the city council awarded the organization a nice chunk of money, while the city attorney announced he would work pro bono to help the RYA recover the money that was taken by the previous group of managers.  Here's the story:

Metro's New Bus Routes

Metro’s new routes take effect on Sunday. If bus riders aren’t careful, they may discover they’re not anywhere close to where they intended to go.

The big change for Rosemead residents is the debut of Metro Rapid Bus service along Garvey Ave. I was originally excited by the prospect, until I saw the new alignment. The #70 route runs along Garvey, past Atlantic, then on to Ramona, where it then curves to the northwest and parallels the San Bernardino Freeway. As it approaches, Eastern, I can hop off and have a short half-mile walk to campus (on days when I needed to come to campus from southern Rosemead).

Illegal postcards?

Story in the Tribune about those mailers, again. The bottom line is that the content of those mailers is probably protected as free speech ("Printing false information is not a crime," says the story). But who’s paying for the mailers (meaning, who’s contributing to support so-called Rosemead Partners, and how much) DOES need to be disclosed.

Rosemead City Hall Closed, Christmas to New Years

Rosemead City Hall will be closed from Christmas to New Years, so if you have business to attend to there, you'd better make the trip before Christmas!

Rosemead CDC/City Council Meetings -- Tuesday, December 11

The Rosemead Community Development Commission and City Council meet on Tuesday, December 11, at 6pm and 7pm, respectively.

The main item on the CDC agenda is the exclusive negotiating agreement with Primestor for the Glendon Way redevelopment project.  That's the Levitz's and hotel property, just north of the San Bernardino Freeway and west of Rosemead Blvd.  This some primo land, provided the new development includes an improvement of freeway access and traffic signal improvements on Rosemead.

Draft Rosemead General Plan Available On-Line

The Draft Rosemead General Plan is now available on-line on the city's website, www.cityofrosemead.org

I would suggest you NOT click on the link for the plan unless you have a high-speed internet connection, or a LOT of time.  The first two parts are about 5 megabytes each; the last part is less than 1 megabyte, as I recall.  Pretty fast on a high-speed connection, but an eternity if you're on a 56K/second connection.
