Rosemead News

Stories about the city or area that aren't specifically about SOC, Wal-Mart or related issues.

Filming at Wal-Mart

They have a filming permit for the Rosemead store, from 8pm April 11 to 8am April 12.  If you  have questions about the terms of the permit, you  might want to call city hall today (Thursday).

Busy, Busy Week!

Monday, April 7:  Planning Commission meeting, 7pm.  Roy's Liquor is back, trying to move their operations east about eight blocks.  There's also an application for a bar/restaurant near the corner of Mission and Valley.  Also, just 100 yard or so north of that is a propert that wants to subdivided and replace two small houses with two larger h ouses.

Tuesday, April 8:  City Council meeting, 7pm.  Haven't checked the agenda, but it's on the city website.

More MTA stuff

This links to a VERY large (~8.5 megabyte) .pdf document from MTA. Alternative 1 is the one that would replace MTA route 770, extending the Gold Line east-side extension up Atlantic, then east on Garvey to El Monte. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune story is here.

Traffic Commission Meeting -- April 3, 7pm

The Traffic Commission meets this Thursday, April 3 at 7pm at the Rosemead Community Center, 3936 N. Muscatel Ave. The agenda can be viewed here.

AAA Offices Moving

Just in case any of you out there are AAA members, you might be interested to know that the existing office in San Gabriel (on Mission Drive, between Mission Road and Las Tunas)  is closing soon.  I think the last day there will be Friday, April 4.

The next Monday (or possibly Tuesday), the new office in Alhambra will open. This one is located on Main Street, west of Chapel.  It's in the same shopping center as Ralph's.

Reminder on Rosemead Community Yard Sale

It's been posted here in the past, but a reminder is due:  It's this SUNDAY, March 30, from 9am to 3pm.  Nearly 100 slots were sold to Rosemead residents.  Several slots were given to nonprofits for their use.  There will also be moon bounces and food sold by non-profit vendors.

Mayor Tran Re-elected

Another short blurb, this time on the city council.  They "reorganized" last night.  Turns out the same two guys are still at the top, though:  John Tran as Mayor and John Nunez as Mayor Pro Tem.

I'll post additional observations when time permits.

Valley Vision Meeting -- SHORT blurb

We had what I think was a very good meeting regarding the future of Valley Blvd.  The consultant gave us some guidelines, and the public provided comments.  I was very impressed with the quality of the comments.  Many people clearly spent some time thinking about this issue and came up with concerns that were both constructive and insightful.  But it's a workday, so I don't have time to summarize them all.  I did take detailed notes and I will do my best to see that these comments are addressed as the Valley Vision study goes forward.
