Traffic Commission Vacancies

The home page for the city of Rosemead, www.cityofrosemead.org, is now advertising for applications to fill two vacancies on the Traffic Commission.  One of these vacancies was created when former Traffic Commissioner Ron Gay accepted appointment to the Planning Commission.  The other is the expiring term of current Traffic Commissioner, Howard Masuda.  Should he seek reappointment, the city council would have the option of either reappointing him or appointing someone from the outside.

Your tax dollars at work!

Here’s a pleasant surprise I found on the city’s website: The fiscal 2008-2009 budget.

Yep, for the first time in the city’s history, if you want to know where your tax dollars are going, you don’t need to go to city hall to read a copy at the front desk.

Concert in the Park/Sidewalk Astronomy

The Rosemead Concerts in the Park series starts this Friday, July 11, The full schedule is below. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. For more information call Rosemead Parks and Recreation at (626) 569-2160.

+ Friday, July 11 – Soto Band

+ Friday, July 25 – Cold Duck

+ Friday, August 8 – 80 Degrees

+ Friday, August 22 – Doo Wah Riders

For Friday, July 11, I’m also giving serious consideration to dragging out a telescope or two to Rosemead Park.  I'd probably set up sometime between 7 and 8pm, and tear it all down if things get slow.

Notes from the City Council Meeting

As noted here, most of last night’s meeting was spent talking about the proposed jogging trail around Rosemead Park. Rosemead Partners (in Crime) sent out another inflammatory post card earlier in the week.

It’s really unfortunate that they always try to demonize our city council majority. This issue, like many others,  has plenty of room for a reasoned discussion of the issues.  As it was, about three of the twelve or so opponents of the jogging trail were very reasoned. Most of the rest were just annoying.

Some Fourth of July Pictures

Another successful Fourth of July parade has come and gone.  My very rough estimate is we had about 50% more spectators than last time.  The crowd was thicker and deeper around city hall this year than it was last year (in part because some benches were deployed in this area), and there were fewer gaps along the way.  The Rosemead Blvd crossing continues to be problematic, because the break there means we get breaks in the parade, sometimes as long as ten minutes.

Fourth of July Parade/Carnival/Festival, City Meetings, and Concert in the Park

Friday, July 4: Parade, starting at 10am at Walnut Grove and Valley, then heading east, across Rosemead Blvd, then north on Loma to Rosemead Park. Carvinal at Rosemead Park from noon until 10pm. Opening Ceremony at 12:30pm. Free swimming at Rosemead pool, from noon. Fireworks after dark. Press release HERE.

No Traffic Commission on 07/03; Now on 07/17!

Due to City Hall being closed, the regularly scheduled July 3rd meeting has been cancelled.  Those wishing to see us can come to the 4th of July Parade, where at least 3/5 of us should be in a vehicle waving to y'all.  As noted above, our next actual meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 17th, at the usual time of 7 PM.  As far as I know, we will still be in the RCRC at that

E-waste/haz-waste Roundup on June 28th

Are you like me and don't want to drive all the way out to Pico Rivera, Whittier or Baldwin Park just to get rid of your "special" waste?  Well, wait no longer, fellow accumulator.  Right here in the City of Rosemead there will be a household hazardous waste/e-waste round-up this Saturday, June 28th, in the Southern California Edison parking lot from 9 AM to 3 PM.
