Lazzaretto on the Way Out!

http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_6080070

I wasn't at the meeting but I did talk to a few folks who were.  Then there's the newspaper article, above.

Looks like they are going to force our city manager out.  And by "they," I mean all five of our city council members.

Lazzaretto came highly recommended, and he was hired by a unanimous city council less than a year and a half ago.  Nonetheless, our city council, which can rarely agree on anything, agreed on this.  I guess that's why they pay city managers the big bucks.

More trivia

More news from the Rosemead Green Sheet:

For the week ending May 23, 160 citations were issued for street parking on street sweeping days.  The next week, there were 144.

This works out to about 150/week.  52 weeks in a year.  That's 7,800 citations in a year.  The current fine is $18.  That means it's $140,400 a year in ticket revenue (I don't know how much of that Rosemead gets and how much the county gets to process these tickets).

G.O.T. Graffiti?

The county sheriff's department is sponsoring a "Give Out Tips on Graffiti" event.  It is open only to "adults" (they do not define "adult" in the flyer), and will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 6:30pm - 9:00 pm at the Rosemead Community Center.  That's at 3939 Muscatel Ave., directly south of the library and near the city hall.

Topics on their flyer include:  1) How to Prevent Graffiti; 2) Is Your Child Involved With Graffiti?; 3) The Consequences; 4) The Differences Between Gangs v. Tagging Graffiti.

New Single Family Residential Design Guidelines!

[The exclamation point is just tossed in there to re-emphasize the point I make in the post, below:  Most of city government is pretty dull, or "should" be.]

In this case, I would like to stress what's so good about these new guidelines, because, from the comments I heard last night, I think some of us may note quite see how this is supposed to help improve the appearance of our neighborhoods.

PARADE!

Well, folks, looks like we're going to have a Fourth of July parade this year.

I know that some people are really enthusiastic about having a parade, and I know that some people are strongly opposed to having it.  As noted in a previous post, I am personally pretty indifferent to this whole thing.  But that doesn't mean I don't care how the parade turns out.

The motion to go forward with the parade was approved unanimously.  Mayor Tran wants to take the lead in making this happen, but I hope he and the other council members can agree to all become co-chairs of this effort, instead.

The County District Attorney's Public Integrity Division

http://www.sgvtribune.com/news/ci_6009749

A very flattering profile on the county DA's public integrity division.  A little too flattering, when one considers what happened when I forwarded to them a clearly-illegal political flyer about two years ago.

It seems to me they have had a tendency to draw out their investigations and/or to refer (pass off like a hot potato) complaints to the FPPC.  In talking to other activists in the region, my experience was not unique.

Memorial Day in Rosemead

There was a nice Memorial Day observation in Rosemead this morning.  Good band, good bugler playing "Taps," and a good bagpiper playing "Amazing Grace."  Apparently, the local Vietnamese community has organized a "thank you" ceremony at our city hall for a number of years to thank those who served in the Vietnam War, as well as in other conflicts around the world.

Do We Want a Fourth of July Parade?

Rosemead City Council meets in special session tomorrow, May 29, at 6:30pm.  On the agenda is the question of whether or not our city should reinstate the Fourth of July parade.  If you want a parade, come to city hall to tell them.  If you don't, come to city hall to tell them that, too.
