It's Illegal to Charge for Parties

According to the LA County Code (which applies to South San Gabriel, and Rosemead if RSMD doesn't have it's own law) parties in residential areas cannot charge admission. So if you see a flyer party with an admission, call them up and tell them they can't do that, legally. From the code (at http://ordlink.com/codes/lacounty/index.htm):

13.41.010 Definitions.
As used in this chapter:
A. “Charge admission” means the demand and receipt of a tangible benefit, monetary or otherwise, which is a motivating influence for admission to the party. The customary courtesies and clearly noncommercial activity such as gifts by guests, sharing of expenses for dinner and beverages, or reciprocal hospitality, shall not be considered to be charge for admission. “Charge admission” does not include a donation for a political, charitable or religious purpose.
B. “Party” means a group of persons meeting together for social, recreational or amusement purposes.
C. “Residential zone” means residential zones as defined in Section 22.20.010 of this code. (Ord. 82-0082 § 1 (part), 1982.)

13.41.020 Charging admission to parties in residential zones prohibited.
It is unlawful to charge admission to any party conducted in a residential zone. (Ord. 82-0082 § 1 (part), 1982.)

13.41.030 Violation--Penalty.
Violation of this chapter is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00 or by imprisonment in the County Jail for not to exceed six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. (Ord. 82-0082 § 1 (part), 1982.)

It's Illegal to Charge for

OK, same problem here as I had with some of the other recent posts on the site:  If I click on the link for this post, I get an error message ("The page can not be displayed").   If I add an "/" to the end of the address, I actually get to view the post.  Very odd.

Anyway, regarding this:  A lot of "Rosemead" code is actually just county code "adopted by reference."  So this part is almost certainly part of Rosemead city code, too.
