Moms Vs. Wal-Mart

That's a group that is protesting the concept of Wal-Marts opening adjacent to schools.  Apparently, the students of Eldridge Rice Elementary School are not the only children in America that the geniuses from Bentonville decided to expose to 14,000 or more cars a day.

I would encourage my fellow Rosemeadians to go on over to the Moms vs. Wal-Mart site and sign their letter to Wal-Mart.

Also, while we're on the topic, there are plans for a press conference to be held near the corner of Rush St. and Delta Ave [across the street from Rice School].  That would be on Wednesday, February 8, 1:30pm, as part of a national Moms vs. Wal-Mart kick-off.

Oh, and, by the way:  If it were to open, how much sales tax revenue would the proposed Wal-Mart contribute to the coffers of Rosemead's schools?  Zero.

And how much has Wal-Mart contributed to the Garvey School District [which operates Rice Elementary and the other three public schools that would be most directly affected by the proposed Wal-Mart]?  Zero.

Thanks a lot, Wal-Mart.  You sure put your money where your mouth is.

Great Event on February 8th!

Thanks to Francis and Ed for all their hard work that made this event such a success.  I loved the ballons, the large hanging sign, and the smaller placard signs used by the protesters who lined Rush Street yesterday afternoon.  Thanks also to the parents, teachers, and students who participated in the event, as well as the many other Rosemead and South San Gabriel [Garvey School District] residents who turned out to tell Wal-Mart that building a supercenter across the street from an elementary school is not our idea of showing that "Wal-Mart Cares."
