New District Lines at the LAT

This is an awesome map from the LA Times.

Redistricting

Their data team is going a really good job.

Attached is a color-enhanced version of the two maps, with squiggly marks showing the weird-shaped districts.

It looks like the commission did fulfill one goal, of reducing the weird gerrymandered districts shapes.

I was just about to post that

I was just about to post that interactive map, too. It's very helpful.

The new Congressional district is very good for Judy Chu. It's Asian-plurality. The assembly district is also good for Asians.

The senate district is the biggest change. Ed Hernandez would no longer live in our district. Looks like Rosemead, Alhambra, Monterey Park, Arcadia, and San Marino would shift into Ron Calderon's district. Looks like an Asian northern part of the district and Hispanic southern portion.

Calderon isn't termed out until 2014. That election could be pretty competitive, though I'm not sure where it will leave Mike Eng (who is termed out of the Assembly in 2012).

Seems to leave eng in a good

Seems to leave eng in a good position.
