New York Times article on causes of the Civil War

There's a very interesting article currently on the New York Times' website regarding the causes of the Civil War. Complete with hyperlinks to the secession documents from several of the states that left the Union, it makes a very compelling case that, surprise, slavery really was at the heart of the matter.

It's a timely article, and a reminder to those that would attempt to whitewash history and cloak the Confederates in the cloth of Thomas Jefferson that their talk about "states rights" was concerned with only one right of the states: The right to keep slaves, expand slave holding into new territories, and force free states to return escaped slaves to their masters.
