Another Twist on the Excessive Benefits Tale

El Monte lawmakers have been cashing out their benefits. Probably not legal.

El Monte, teetering on the edge of insolvency, has decided that what Wal-Mart (one of the world's largest corporations) needs a $7.7 million subsidy to come to El Monte. Sadly, the SEIU local that represents El Monte workers has thrown its lot in with the Boys from Bentonville.

The Rich Get Richer

El Monte, a city that is so broke that it imposed an additional .5% sales tax on its residents (and neighbors who shop in El Monte), just found $7.7 million to give to a developer to get Wal-Mart to bring their noise, traffic, and exploitive practices to El Monte.

San Gabriel High School E-waste Drive

It's not until February 26 and 27, 9am - 3pm, so you've got plenty of time to collect your stuff. They'll take computers, monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, televisions, vcr/dvd players, auto and rechargeable batteries, and many other electronic stuff. If you've got it, bring it, and they'll let you know if they can take it.

San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority

Other than spending thousands of dollars on fancy ads in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, it's not clear what the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority has done for the citizens of the San Gabriel Valley. But Water Quality Authority board members do receive a big, fat stipend. That's why Margaret Clark has been on the board since its inception.
