Weekly Meetings on Hiatus

After four years, it's time for a break.  So the weekly meetings at the Amberwood complex on on hiatus.  We're not sure when we'll begin regular meetings again.  But this website and the e-mail list will continue.  And, of course, we still have the phone tree.

There are also tentative plans for a potluck picnic in October.

It'll be fun to have some purely social time together.  I'll post more information on the picnic when it becomes available.

Thank you Polly Low and Victor Ruiz!!!

By this time, I'm sure most of you already know the recall election results.   Specifically, the recall of Jay Imperial received 2513 "no" votes and 1735 "yes" votes.  The recall of Gary Taylor received 2467 "no" votes and 1718 "yes" votes.  Polly and Victor represented us all diligently and passionately throughout this recall season.  I sincerely hope they both run in future Rosemead elections.

WakeUpWalMart!!!!!

A Change Wal-Mart national bus tour will be held this summer.  This tour is scheduled to reach Rosemead on August 27, 2006.  All Save Our Community volunteers are encouraged to participate in this history making event.  Please attend tonight's (7/12) meeting or visit www.WakeUpWalMart.com for further details.

What is Save Our Community?

In case you've come to our site by accident, you may not know what SOC is all about.

The people who call themselves Save Our Community are volunteer citizens from Rosemead, South San Gabriel, and surrounding communities.  The group was originally organized to unify Rosemead and South San Gabriel residents in their battle against the Wal-Mart supercenter proposed for the corner of Rush St. and Delta Ave. in Rosemead.

Thank you, Al. You're not forgotten.

Today, Al Mehlman was laid to rest.  Al and his wife, Jewel were supporters of the opposition against Wal-Mart since the formation of the grass root group called Save Our Community.  The work of Al and Jewel, both financially and through personal effort and dedication was outstanding.  Al will be greatly missed.

Wal-Mart Here We Come!!!

Please read Todd Kunioka's excellent summation of April 25th's city council meeting.  He does a wonderful job as always.  Most importantly, Save Our Community wishes to thank Councilman Tran and Councilman Nunez for their superior leadership Tuesday night.  We still have a long way to go, but our team is stronger than ever.  Next week's Wednesday meeting (5/3) is cancelled

Please Vote Once to Stop Wal-Mart!!!

Please visit www.sgvtribune.com and vote "yes" on the Rosemead Recall Poll.  The poll is on the front page.  Currently, the "no" votes outnumber the "yes" votes.

City Council Meeting, Tuesday, April 25, 8pm: Appeal of Imperial v. Castruita and Traffic Issues on Delta Ave

On 8pm Tuesday, April 25, the Rosemead City Council will meet in regular session.  Two issues of concern to us will be on the agenda.

1.  A motion to appeal the decision in Imperial v. Castruita will be made.  In light of the recent decision by the Federal Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to grant an en banc rehearing of Padilla v. Lever, it is likely that Judge Klausner can be persuaded to lift his preliminary restraining order against our original recall election.  The city council will discuss that issue in closed session.  However, I would encourage people who support an appeal of Imperial v. Castruita to come to the City Council meeting early and address that issue during the public comment period, which is held at the *beginning* of each city council meeting.
