Slow to the Party

Last week the Tribune reported that health benefits to Alhambra City Council members totally nearly $100,000.

Better late than never. For too long, the Tribune has been looking at the easy number: Pay. Health benefits and retirement benefits to supposedly part-time employees are a much bigger deal, both in terms of dollars and in terms of significance. THESE are the costs that long-time council members have been loading up on. And by long-time, I mean the folks that the Tribune has been endorsing for generations, often times as "watchdogs" of the public treasury.
